I feel that I have not read a vampire book in a while so I was pretty excited to pick up this one. I have been reading a lot of YA fantasy novels, at least that’s what it seems like, so an adult fiction on vampires seemed rather attractive to me. I feel that I have not read a vampire book in a while so I was pretty excited to pick up this one. I have been reading a lot of YA fantasy novels, at least that’s what it seems like, so an adult fiction on vampires seemed rather attractive to me. Forewarning: there are a lot of SPOILERS in this one!

I thought that the premise was interesting enough with Nicole being involved in a car accident due to this intense blizzard and Michael, this mysterious and obvious vampire, coming to her rescue. However, I think the book fell rather flat for me. The chemistry between the two were definitely there but that was it. I found Nicole’s persistence in knowing more about Michael a bit annoying and unnecessary. For example, there was a part where Michael already stated that he prefers eating alone yet Nicole took it upon herself to make him food and when he refused to eat with her, she got mad. I really didn’t understand that part because he already told her to pretty much leave him out of any food situations and she didn’t yet she was the one who got annoyed about it. Honestly, it just seemed really annoying to me.

I also didn’t think that Michael trying to be all subtle and hide the fact that he was a vampire was working. It was so blatantly obvious to me that it was more of me just simply waiting for Nicole to finally connect the dots. And when she finally did, she freaked, understandably, but then afterward, what really irked me was the fact that he essentially attacked her for her blood and somehow she was suddenly totally cool with the whole idea. It was just incredibly unrealistic that in the few days that she was snowed in, she went from finding out that he was her favorite author to finding out that he was a vampire and then to be totally cool with the idea of him drinking her blood.

Despite all of the above, it was the ending that really aggravated me. Nicole was finally able to return home and they decided to simply part ways. There was no happy ending and no ultimate romance between the two of them. I felt as if I was jilted at the end. ...more

Nicole is trying to get to the airport after a friends ski wedding however the storm is much stronger than she anticipated. Nicholas, a known recluse, did not bank for a lady to get stranded on his property and now he can't do anything but let her stay. It certainly turns out to be an adventure neither of them bargained for.
