Water for Elephants is a quick read. I managed to finish it up over the course of a couple of snow days. I really enjoyed the circus aspect of the novel. I liked learning about the train culture and the social culture of performers and workers.
What I did not like is the main character and narrator of the story. The problem with Jacob is that I wasn't sure who he was. When we get a look at him as an old man he's more solid but when he takes you back in his minds eye to that first year with the c

Not proud of this, but it was emphatically recommended by someone I care about, so I did it. Light, guilty read. Sweet story.

Water for Elephants is a wonderful story. It was touching, funny, sad and full of suspense.
