This was a lovely book. The characters were distant yet very real, and the mixed up timeline actually added to the way the story was told rather than distracted and confused as I had initially expected. The illusions were particularly spectacular: they seemed emotionally charged, beautiful, and somehow realistic all at the same time. The second person vignettes interspersed in the story brought out the way the circus was supposed to feel. I loved that.

2020: This was a reread and the second time was far more enjoyable than the first time; I really enjoyed the introductions to each section, as they allowed the reader to feel as though you were really inside The Night Circus.

“Now the circus is open. Now you may enter.”
I am not entirely sure what I think about this book. It was not quite what I expected, though I am not sure what I expected in the first place. The plot was intricate and complex and well executed, though it was a little slow for my taste. The writing, however, was some of the most lush, vivid, gorgeous that I have ever encountered. That alone was enough to keep me reading.

A great premise that suffered somewhat from a bit of over-writing and an unsatisfying end. I want to go to the circus, certainly, but the relationships between the people weren't developed or explained enough for me. I could picture the place and not the characters, which maybe was partially the point, but it didn't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, still a solid 3-3.5 star read, but not making its way into my Top 10.

A really great read! Beautiful prose marks a somewhat meandering plot with standout characters. The language really is what sets this read apart for me (though I think the unusual format works well for this particular novel also). I enjoyed the plot (jumping through time as it does). Reading this book was mostly fun and easy, but at times haunting and sad. I enjoyed the changes my emotions went through as I read and I was left feeling wistful and wanting more. I was very pleased with the experie

Really enjoyed this book. It's not what I expected. It's a bit dark and mysterious. I did think the middle of the book was a tad slow and the ending was a bit abrupt, but the concept was unique and interesting.
