As someone who has typically avoided lengthy fantasy novels after trying and DNFing several lauded ones (not because I found them bad, but because they were so description-oriented as to be exhausting) this book has changed my mind and been a sort of entryway through the door of the genre.

I went into A Game Of Thrones expecting to DNF it due to the massive length and what I'd heard was a huge cast of characters to keep track of. It just sounded imposing. But after hearing enough about the show (

This was a really good book and I look forward to see how the rest of the series goes. I am glad that I watched the first season of the show first because it helped me keep characters and events in order. There are so many characters that having watched the first season was really helpful. However, I do not plan on watching more until I have read more of the series.

The characters felt so real. And so sad. It always amazes me when author's are able to create such a complete world with a full hist

AGOT is one of the best Fantasy novels I've read in years - I'm been reading this genre for about 35 years.

This is a tale of power and corruption, what makes it different from other tales is that Martin does the unexpected throughout the book.

I will definitely read the rest of the series - just want to be able to do this without interruptions - round on the summer holidays.

Thank goodness, it`s over. I am sorry to all fans, but the language in this book is really hard for me. Many slow parts, that are just boring, and they don`t have any sense. Just because there are a lot of descriptions without any further development. I still enjoyed TV show, and would like to read all books. But first certainly has its flows. We`ll see, how it goes with the rest. ...more

Audiobook

I have been a big fan of the HBO show so the curiosity to finally delve into the series got the best of me. As always the book is better and some parts of the show that I had not quite understood are better explained. There are a million characters but if you have the patience for this book it is well worth the read or the listen.
