I'm not sure where to start with this novel. It was strange, lovely, dark, confusing, and fun. Very much a fairy tale for adults, I felt that it was suspenseful in the fact that all of these things are happening to such a small boy, and you can't help but to feel frightened for him. I loved the Hempstock women and their alternate view on the way the rest of the world saw events. Definitely unlike anything I have read in awhile.

If you want to read one of the best Southern novels of the 21st century, then you should read this one, even though it's set in England.

A delightful, yet haunting read that reminds us things aren't always what they seem and how very scary growing up can be.
