I avoided this book when it first came out as I was scarily reminded of that child-of-the-wild Jodie Foster movie where she runs around in a floursack spouting gibberish. (also, Reese Witherspoon. If I don't trust Oprah I sure ain't trusting Reese) But my mother recently read this and she so loved it I thought I would give it a shot, and I tried desperately to like it while reading. By now, absolutely no one needs a review so I'll say this : Mostly character-driven, with a hint of mystery. 3.5 stars, rounded up for lovely writing.
