Fantastic book!!! This is one of those times I wish we could if give a book 10 stars because it's just that good. I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction but this book changed me. I loved this book and will recommend it to everyone.
I loved that we met Kya as a 7 year old girl and we followed her through her entire life. We saw her through every milestone and a lot of them broke my heart and the reason why we'll be a spoiler so I'm going to hide it.

Booooooooooooooooo! Super disappointing considering the rave reviews. The writing quality is only so-so. It tends to veer into a pattern of reading like a screenplay and less like a novel which is a pet peeve of mine. Some of the passages are decent and establishing the Carolina marshes as the backdrop to this story is well done, but the overall plot starts solid and slowly begins to disintegrate to just complete garbage.
