Absolutely loved this one. A Man called Ove was a laugh and a cry for me.
Ove is a grumpy old man. A man of principle. And not very nice. He was never a talker and not very social either. It's the way he is, and there is a reason too. His wife Sonja died recently and he just can't take life anymore. In flashbacks we learn how he meets Sonja, how they build a life together in which he absolutely adores her. I seem to be on a roll here with 4.5-5 star books lately--I'll take it! This is my second book by Fredrik Backman and I liked it almost as much as Britt-Marie. It was a lot funnier, I thought, but I wasn't moved quite as much as I was with Britt-Marie. Still, I loved this Curmudgeon and all his little quirks. Generally speaking, Backman has a gift with character portrayals, although, in this book, Jimmy was a bit too stereotyped for my taste. My least favorite scenes had to do with Jimm ...more

We are all connected is the feeling I had most strongly after and while reading this book. I didn't particularly care for the opening of each chapter, and I found some of the actions unlikely (even those of the cat), but overall the book was entertaining and I can see how it could make for an interesting movie. In some ways, I would have preferred having alternating chapters with each of the neighbors having input to this man called Ove. But that might have made it too complicated considering al
