If you know or love a grumpy old man, you'll probably relate to and like this book. It reminded me in turns of my father - the definition of a grumpy old man set in his ways - and my husband - on his way there, and has claimed to be an old man since birth. This book takes you inside the head and heart of just such a man, and it's a sweet and lovely journey.
If you like Swedish fiction style, you'll like this book, but I am aware it's quite a different style from typical weste ...more

A Man Called by Frederik Backman started off with a persnickety curmudgeon who readers grew to 'ove.' Told through the protagonist's narrative, readers realize that Ove has being suffering, losing everyone he loved. Despite holding people at an arms length, they fight their way into his life and end up saving his own.
