I am currently taking a class on Black British Women writers and this is the first of the three books we are reading.
I didn't remember I had read this before. I think I got so much more out of it this time. The stories of Londoners who are working class, white, Black, biracial, Christian, Bangladeshi, Jamaican, Muslim, and a lot of things in between. 100 pages into this book and I just can't find it in me to care one whit about any of it's characters. Last night I looked around at the stacks of other books I have waiting to be read and I asked myself, "Why am I spending my time on this?" After a moment's consideration I shrugged and closed the book sans bookmark. I rarely ever don't finish a book and maybe I didn't give this one enough of a chance, but it's just not connecting with me at this read.
