Shelves: audiobook, 2020, fantasy, romance, 2020-ng-group-challenge, historical-fiction

I enjoyed this story and didn't have trouble suspending my belief partly because I have been reading a fair bit of magic realism lately, and I read a fair bit of fantasy in general. So it's fun to to imagine a world where stuff like this happens. I also very much enjoyed Jim Dale's narration of this book, and didn't usually have trouble following who was who. I’m not sure if it’s because fantasy just isn’t my cup of tea or this was just a really bad story. The writing was sophisticated, but the actual story was boring and sluggish. There was so much happening, yet nothing was going on. So glad to finally be done with this one.

I recomment the audiobook for this one. Jim Dale is a fantastic narrator and really brings the book to life. And this book is all about the atmosphere, the descriptions and the characters.
