Shelves: fantasy, general-mainstream, books-read-in-2015

It lost some of its steam towards the end, where the romance aspects became a little much for me, but otherwise - a wonderful book, the best kind of magical realism, which an easily loveable cast of characters. While overflowery and self-indulgent in some places, the overall stories told are fantastic. I was particularly drawn to Bailey's story, and could never put the book down when I hit one of his chapters. ...more

So enchanting was this book that I don't even know how to properly word this review. Intricately beautiful in detail, a bit slower in pace but well worth the wait. This has quickly made it to my top 5 books of all time.

When will I learn that I don't like books about the circus! This book was a chore and I am beside myself with all the high ratings.... Maybe I'm just a crotchety old lady now with no imagination. Back to the drawing board folks... To find a book I might like. Note to self.... If there is magic, illusionists or contortionists in the synopsis, skip it! ...more
