An easy 5 stars for me. This is my first book by this author and I loved it. This book covers a subject I had know prior knowledge of. I had certainly heard of Stalin's reign of terror, but I knew nothing about this part of history. You can either like this book or get upset by this book. A harsh story of people displaced during war and deported to Siberia.
The story focuses on a young girl Lina, a talented artist who gets deported to Siberia with her family while her father is separated from them. The hardships the prisoners had to endure is sometimes very disturbing yet the book is exceptionally well written that I could hardly put it down. I like how the book had very short chapters keeping me focused on the story.

I really liked this book. It really is a book of love and perseverance. It is certainly a hard topic and a part of history I was not aware of! I loved the characters and wish that there was more!! I would have really liked to know more about the end, but don't want to say more to spoil it.
