A flat main character whose story really should have been from first person POV, since everyone else just tells him exactly what they are thinking/feeling anyway and it never shows anything happening outside of his field of vision. This series had an interesting premise--a world scorched by sun flares, people struggling to survive the aftermath, a virus that drives the survivors mad--and then it just loses it by forcing the traditional teenagers vs the evil government cliche.
