This is seriously awesome. Please, check it out. I have no idea why it took me so long to pick it up, it sounded amazing and it really didn't disappoint. This is both science fiction, a futuristic envisioning of Earth and a fairy tale retelling, which honestly sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does. This is seriously awesome. Please, check it out. I have no idea why it took me so long to pick it up, it sounded amazing and it really didn't disappoint. This is both science fiction, a futuristic envisioning of Earth and a fairy tale retelling, which honestly sounds like it shouldn't work, but it does. The book has that kind of quality or feeling to it that fairy tales seem to possess, which is that even though everything is kind of predictable in the sense that you know everything will turn out all right, you can't help but enjoy it.
Cinder is a reimagining of Cinderella as a futuristic cyborg mechanic. Even though you know she is Cinderella, don't believe there are no surprises. Don't think you know where her story is going, because trust me, you don't.
This was an awesome ride, and I highly recommend it.

Uma coisa que ambas achamos muito interessante foi o uso da estória da Cinderella, mas sem abusar. Conseguimos perfeitamente apanhar os pormenores (alguns mais óbvios que outros), mas sem ser uma cópia deste conto. A introdução de Cinderella está inteligentemente bem feita. Mas esta estória não tem só a Cinderella como base, para quem conhece (e gosta) consegue notar as nuances de Sailor Moon: o povo Lunar, que vive na 3.5

Mas esta estória não tem só a Cinderella como base, para quem conhece (e gosta) consegue notar as nuances de Sailor Moon: o povo Lunar, que vive na Lua, a Rainha Levana, a Princesa Selene – reconhecem alguns nomes? Parece-vos familiar? A Carla sempre que lia Rainha Levana quem lhe vinha à memória era a Queen Beryl; e a perdida Princesa Selene é, claro, uma reminiscência de Princess Serenity.

Ambas concordamos que a leitura tem um passo rápido, que denota a urgência do que se está a passar no enredo, no entanto, o final parece demasiado abrupto. O final quase que parece que nos é atirado à cara em meia dúzia de páginas e já está… Ainda assim, gostamos bastante do livro e parece-nos uma boa estória e queremos continuar com a série e ver como os próximos contos são abordados.

Mas o livro também tem alguns aspectos negativos. Achámos que faltou descrição do ambiente e algumas explicações; ainda pensámos que seriam mais desenvolvidas durante o livro, mas não aconteceu – o que é uma pena. Sabemos que a União Terreste acontece depois da Quarta Guerra Mundial, no entanto, não há qualquer explicação para a forma como se organizou/dividiu o poder depois da Guerra e nem porque raio aconteceu a Quarta Guerra Mundial (e muito menos a razão pela qual existiu uma Terceira). A estória passa-se na Comunidade Oriental, mas não há qualquer exploração da cultura; não se “sente” que estamos no Oriente. Pouco se sabe dos Lunares: como e porquê foram para a Lua? Como é a sociedade Lunar? Como evoluíram para seres com poder biométricos, etc. Mas visto que o Povo Lunar é um dos elos que liga os vários contos de fadas, pode ser que venha a ser explorado e desenvolvido ao longo dos próximos livros. ...more

I have see this book on my goodreads feed for quite a time but i never feel the urge to start reading it.

As for this book it seems at first sight a fairy tale retelling of Cinderella with a little of snow white in the mixture, but when you start reading it you get so much more in the plot. The book is very fast paced and there is always happening things.

Cinder é uma jovem mecânica, cyborg, que vive para sustentar a madrasta/tutora legal, Adri e as suas duas filhas, Pearl e Peony.

Enquanto Adri e Pearl ostracizam a jovem cyborg, Peony torna-se na única amiga humana de Cinder, até que a pequena contraí a febre azul, acabando por morrer.

Entretanto, Adri doa Cinder ao laboratório do doutor Erland, cuja missão é encontrar a cura para a febre azul.
