Into the Wild was written by Jon Krakauer and is one of his many books, he is an avid climber and adventurous which relates him quite well to the people in his story even though it is a nonfiction book. Into the Wild tells a story of Chris Mccandless life and the great adventure he took that ultimately lead to him losing his life. The book shows multiple opinions and gives information for the reader to make a decision on whether or not Mccandless was young and stupid, or if he was free spirited Into the Wild was written by Jon Krakauer and is one of his many books, he is an avid climber and adventurous which relates him quite well to the people in his story even though it is a nonfiction book. Into the Wild tells a story of Chris Mccandless life and the great adventure he took that ultimately lead to him losing his life. The book shows multiple opinions and gives information for the reader to make a decision on whether or not Mccandless was young and stupid, or if he was free spirited and bright and just made a mistake. Chris Mccandless was different and that's what truly made him special the way he conducted himself matched no other making him a great person that refused to get lost in society.
Mccandless started his journey across the country right after he graduated college, he packed light and donated all of his life savings before he left. Along the way, he impacted many people, the people he impacted were all kind from harvest workers to hippies. They were sad to see him go and never forgot his name whether it be Chris or Alex. When he reached Alaska, he was full of an adventurous spirit. He had rough times and good times in the wilderness, but did very well for himself. He had began to leave the wilderness and maybe even go back to his family when he was stopped and trapped by a river, so he then returned to the bus he lived in to wait until the river had subsided. Chris foraged for wild edibles during his time in the wilderness and ate the wrong kind of plant which made him sick to where he could no longer consume food. He became very weak and suffered for a very long time until he finally died of starvation. He accomplished his goal to live in the wilderness and not become lost in the normality of society.
Chris was a very bright and free spirited young man that had trouble in his homelife which eventually drove him off on his own. His father Walt was very abusive and lived a double life with two families which really upset Chris, making him want to be nothing like his parents. The plot was very interesting and always changing, keeping the reader very intrigued, the people Chris met along his journey were very interesting as well. While Chris was in Alaska, his everyday life was extremely interesting with each and every new experience. The ending, although sad, was very thought-provoking. After Chris had died, the author tells other stories of other people’s adventures that relate to Chris, and he includes different opinions about these adventurous type of people. There are two opinions to Chris’s story and they are that people either love him and think he was brilliant or they hate him and think that he was an idiot. This ending really makes the reader make up their own opinion about Chris Mccandless.
The book is a very good read especially if you think a little differently about things than everybody else. Having different opinions and making up your opinion on your own is a good thing. The way the author has written the book gives the reader complete control on what he or she thinks about the book.
