The Last Thing I Remember by Andrew Klavan is the first book in the series The Homelanders. I decided to read this book because suspense is my favorite genre. This is the first book of Klavan’s that I have read. The book was very suspenseful at some points and very dry at others. One thing that kept the book interesting was the fact that it had two story lines going at once. Overall, the book was a pretty good read and kept my interest.

One thing that kept the book interesting was the fact that it had two story lines going at once. Overall, the book was a pretty good read and kept my interest.
The book immediately grabs your attention by starting with a suspenseful part. Charlie West, the main character, wakes up and is strapped down to a chair. He has no idea how he got there or why he's there. Two men walk in the room and start asking him questions he doesn't know the answers to. He manages to escape from the room and starts running through the woods away from them. While in the woods, he finds a woman. She takes him back to her house and he calls the police. When the police show up to the house they arrest Charlie. Charlie later finds out that he is wanted for murder and has been on the run for six months after escaping from a jail. The only problem is that Charlie cannot remember anything about any of this. The last thing he remembers is talking to a girl he liked in lunch. Charlie can only remember snipits of things that have happened and one of those is hearing someone talk about killing the Secretary of Defense. He ends up escaping from the police again and saves the Secretary of Defense’s life.
The book was good but it definitely not the best book I have ever read. Charlie West, the main character, is a typical high school student. He participates in karate class after school everyday and these karate skills come into use later in the book. I liked Charlie because he seemed like a normal kid just like everyone else. The beginning and end of the book were very exciting but the middle of it where nothing happened was pretty dry. My favorite part of the book was when he was running from the people who were trying to kill him. The end of the book left a cliffhanger that led to the next book. The police are chasing him and he doesn't reveal if he gets caught. Read this book if you are into suspenseful books. If you are only into non-fiction books then you probably shouldn't read this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is into suspenseful books.
