What Members Thought

Do your own bit of saving, and if you drown, at least die knowing you were headed for the shore.
For some reason I am always surprised when I enjoy books which are considered classics! I think this is partly to do with terrible English teachers destroying any passion I might have had for a book read in school. I really need to learn to be more optimistic about reading classic literature!

I read the 60th anniversary edition this time (red cover). It's a fantastic book. I enjoyed it more this time then last time. Truly a classic 🤓 I'm giving it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ this time (last time it was ⭐⭐⭐⭐).

I really wanted to like this book because I think it's important and has an interesting message, but I just found it pointlessly depressing. There was no gray area with this book, just good and bad. Bradbury looks ahead to a future when books are considered bad because they make people think, and thinking can make you unhappy. With fire retardant materials in abundance, firemen have changed their job to create fires rather than put them out. Now they get alarms that books have been found, and th

Review of the audiobook
I'm probably one of the few people over 30 (or is it 40?) who has never read Fahrenheit 451. As such, there's probably little I can add to the discussion that hasn't already been said. So I find myself wondering if I actually enjoyed the book.
I did.
I thought it had many parallels to life today, without being aware of what technology today would look like. But so much of it seemed only a step or two away from reality. Impressive for sci-fi written more than a couple decades ...more

It was OK. Interesting take on what the future (1990's) might be like from the 1950's standpoint. Government is trying to take over way too much as it is so book wasn't that far off in my opinion.

The premise of Fahrenheit 451 is very interesting. Having (and conversely reading) books has been banned, and television has been made more interactive, to provide a way for people to escape reality – to be “happy” always. The execution of the plot though, was rather tedious sometimes, wordy – too much introspection – and as a result, I spent much of the book bored.
Things picked up once the “fireman” went on the run. I can see why this is a recommended book for school age kids – tv rotting your ...more
