Beeing written at the end of the ninetheenth century, this book has a very modern feeling. It’s a story about infidelity, about beeing bored by/feeling trapped in marriage and motherhood.
The very honest, and even in these times modern outlook on it ( going for your own hapiness, not really thinking too much of the children) must have shocked people.

This is one of my favorites. From the moment I first read it in college I loved Kate Chopin and everything this book symbolizes. My heart gets ripped out at the end every time I read it. Being a woman has been hard, and remains hard to this day. It is important to read stories about the past in hopes that one day women can be seen as the amazing beings that they are.
