What a powerful read from a new to me author. Based on true events it is an emotional read that took my breath away at times. I had tears rolling down my cheeks and sometimes even sobs as my heart actually hurt. The vividness of the storytelling made me feel that I was there. The descriptions of the people, their feelings, their behaviors and surroundings were so graphic and realistic that I was transported.

Fantastic book but very sad. Even though it is a fiction it is based on true events regarding an adoption place in Tennessee back in the 1940s. 50s. Very well written.

This book was inspired by the Tennessee Children's Home which was something I had never heard about prior to picking this up and it was really quite a fascinating subject matter for this book. Beyond the subject matter itself, the plot and narrative style of this book follows the normal tropes for this type of book with 2 POVs, a past and present, and the present POV investigating the truth hidden in the past POV and as is the risk with this kind of set up, I found myself mostly more interested ...more
