What a powerful read from a new to me author. Based on true events it is an emotional read that took my breath away at times. I had tears rolling down my cheeks and sometimes even sobs as my heart actually hurt. The vividness of the storytelling made me feel that I was there. The descriptions of the people, their feelings, their behaviors and surroundings were so graphic and realistic that I was transported.

This book was inspired by the Tennessee Children's Home which was something I had never heard about prior to picking this up and it was really quite a fascinating subject matter for this book. Beyond the subject matter itself, the plot and narrative style of this book follows the normal tropes for this type of book with 2 POVs, a past and present, and the present POV investigating the truth hidden in the past POV and as is the risk with this kind of set up, I found myself mostly more interested
