Twilight (The Twilight Saga, #1) in TWILIGHT HATERS

While I admit, I was pretty smitten with this book during my freshmen year, them being quite the...guilty pleasure, I guess, I have to say re-reading it has really put it into perspective- perspective being, it sucks, to be quite honest.

What's wrong with this book? Well, don't ask any rabid mutant fangirls- they might attack for even asking such a thing. But anyway, what isn't wrong with this book? What's wrong with this book? Well, don't ask any rabid mutant fangirls- they might attack for even asking such a thing. But anyway, what isn't wrong with this book? We have Bella Swan, a boring, completely unbelievable "middle-aged" teenager (who just so happens to enjoy the same things Stephenie Meyer enjoys...hmmm...) who tries to come off as the most selfless, perfect person- (coughshe'snotcough), and thinks she's plain when she's actually an undiscovered beauty. She moves to Forks, where she loves to whine and neglet her really nice dad. She then becomes obsessed with Edward Cullen- a perfect, gorgeous, dazzling, sexy- and very flat character- (Gor, give enough descriptions?) vampire. So the first umpteen hundred pages of the book include tedious descriptions of what Bella eats, what she cooks, what she cleans, what she listens to- all in excruciatingly boring details. She lies to her dad She obsesses over Edward, and that's basically it. She gets saved by Edward and obsesses some more. Then they go to a magical meadow where they suddenly fall in love (yup, no build up or explanations, just "love"). And oh!, the drama, thier relationship is so dangerous, because Edward wants to eat Bella (lol wut).
Then all the sudden, a plot actually falls from the sky- for the last hundred or so pages (out of like Five hundred), and is resolved quickly with a bittersweet ending, where the characters learn nothing.

I could probably go on and on with the things I don't like about this book- but the whole book is just dreadful. It lacks a basic direction and plot, includes an obsessive romance with flat, boring, too-perfect characters, including one where it seems Meyer is living through (Bella), and just takes too much time describing how "dazzling" Edward is. There is literature (is Twilight literature?) ten million times better than this book out there- so please, fangirls, do not think this is the only book worth reading- cause its not. This book is not worth the hype. Plus it shouldn't be anywhere near comparison to Harry Potter. At least the hunt scenes were good and it had a little twist at the end (no hint). I didn't enjoyed this one ...more

Confession: I read this book in 2 days. Yes, it was a rainy weekend and there wasn't much else to do but I still feel embarrassed. The writing/dialogue can get pretty damn cheesy, i mean, it's like stuffed crust! This book is made of FAIL.
It lacks a proper plot. Its characters are completely two-dimensional, and the main character, Bella, is a complete vapid moron. She lacks any ability to think for herself. The so-called "dream man" Edward is a manipulative, possessive jerk.

Well, if you have nothing to read and want some teenage romance to lighten up your day, I recommend this one, but don't think too hard or be realistic when you read it.

Personally, I don't like it. Bella, the leading character, declares that she isn't looking for a boyfriend, yet, she's SO obsessed with Edward. Edward, too, falls for her with no REASONABLE reason. ...more
