I read this book around five years ago and I felt it was true to situations many Iraqis went through. What's more interesting as well is Mayada's family background. Both grandfathers were men of influence in Iraq pre- 1958 coup/revolution(s). I came to this book after reading Mayada recent memoir published in Arabic ( في حديقة الملك - ميادة العسكري 2016). Some of the reviews of the Arabic translation suggested that Mayada would have done a better job writing her story. In fairness this Jane Saas ...more
