Plot-wise very similar to the first half of Lolita . However, "the man" is nowhere as cunning or likable as Humbert Humbert and "the widow" is not even close to being as irritating as the annoying Charlotte Haze. "The girl" has none of the American vulgarity of Dolores Haze and appears to be far less mature (even though both are 12-year olds at the beginning). This story is a lot more "traditional" than Lolita , with "the man" punished severely for his actions.
