Fearing that the first word that comes to mind for this review is inadequate, I hesitate to use the word "delightful" in describing the character of Flavia de Luce and the books in which she stars, but delightful she is and they are. I am simply smitten with this enchanting series from Alan Bradley. He doesn't miss a beat with this latest addition to the tale of an eleven year old precocious girl who has her own chemistry lab and an uncanny knack for uncovering puzzling clues and solving mysteri ...more

I hope this series goes on for a really long time! I hope Flavia continues to solve mysteries (including the ones about her own life and family) through her teenage years (maybe she could have a boy in her life like Nancy Drew's Ned), into adulthood, maybe even old age (look out Miss Marple!).

Good old Flavia -she never disappoints me, and I'm getting an ever increasing feeling that Bradley is setting up for Miss de Luce to do some investigating into the whereabouts of her Mother.

As usual, Flavias attempts to solve another murder (I wonder if her village is twinned with that of Midsomer?) are hampered by her "evil" sisters and an extremely tolerant police inspector - fire, death. gypsies, shady characters and the ever faithful bicycle Gladys all add up to another fine romp for one of

I had been looking forward to joining my favorite precocious, 11 year-old sleuth on another jaunt through the post WWII hamlet of Bishops Lacey and the grounds of her ancestral manor home, Buckshaw. This third book in the Flavia DeLuce Mysteries did not fail to satisfy. Flavia takes the reader on a rollicking ride on her beloved BSA bicycle, Gladys, with the requisite murder victim, dark and secret passages, old gypsies, long held grudges and of course, chemistry. There are, of course, the requi ...more

Delightful continuation of the Flavia series, fraught with quirky characters, peril, and dark humor. In this outing, Flavia investigates the attempted murder of a gypsy woman. I adore this unique series!

As satisfying as a good cuppa Earl Grey.... These books are so much fun and Flavia...what a character! If Mr Bradley continues these great stories, I might actually pick up some chemistry!
