Saw this was ranked highly and decided to try, and how glad I am that I took a “risk” on a book that was no risk at all. It’s that good.

Do you know anything about Romania? I probably new more than most by knowing that 1) it’s a real place in the Eastern European bloc, and 2) Transylvania is a real place in historical and modern Romania, and 3) that Dracula is not real, Vlad the Impaler was, and was not a crazy psycho but a national hero. I think I have read all of Ruta Sepetys's previous books and thought all of them were excellent. Like her other books, this is an exceptionally well-researched and well-written fictional accounting of an important historical event. All of her books are categorized as Young Adult, but don't let that stop you from picking up her books.
