I love Dickens and the eyes he set on a time of horrid living conditions, poverty and lack of Social intervention. Oliver is an orphan whose mother dies in a workhouse. His life is miserable and impoverished and yet he retains a sense of innocence and we feel his pain as the awful events unfold and he suffers.
