This is an amazing travelogue of history of pretty much everything there is an ever was and its compactness and accessibility makes it truly a literary achievement in popularizing science. One can only marvel at Bryson's ability to tell us how little we still know in this age of information explosion and his imagination to produce (and gather from other works) truly interesting scales in so much abundance. Interesting overview of major discoveries made about our world. The book covers everything from the vastness of space to individual cells in our bodies. If you are curious about a variety of scientific frontiers, this book's for you.

An easy to follow and understand survey of the history of science. Much is glossed over and simplified (of course) but Bryson makes the information accessible and interesting. I didn't really enjoy the audiobook (the author was narrating) but I probably wouldn't have gotten around to reading it otherwise.
