Wow. Every American should read this book. It's so much more than it appears to be on first look. The reader expects a family memoir, and that is provided along with crucial and little-known American history. This book contains so much elegant wisdom, eloquently told. Further, it asks us to do more, to be more, to understand more.

This memoir became more absorbing as Michele Norris told the story of her parents in detail in the latter half of the book, especially as she digged into the past of her father, which he had kept quiet for so many decades. I liked the fact that Norris dealt with questions of race, justice, and equality in the U.S.A. With her journalist's perspective, it was refreshing to see that she

I'm not actually really "currently reading" this just yet, as I don't HAVE it just yet... but I found out I won a copy via First Reads (yay!) so will be reading it when it gets here!
