What Members Thought

So finally finished this one. It took me a little to get into it, but once it got going I never wanted it to stop. The best part, I thought, was that it didn't devolve into a war novel, detailing battle per battle and losing the personal aspect. It made the victories seem easy - which I'm sure they weren't - but I'd rather do it that way than the other.

The ending could have been far better, but all in all this was pretty good.

Na 50 pagina's voelde ik het al: dit is niet zoals de vorige delen. Waar is de ironie, de relativerende humor? Spotgaai is grauw, een oorlog tegen het Capitool, president Snow en de rebellen van de districten 1 tot en met 13. Ik kreeg geen klik meer met Katniss en ik vond dit boek ook absoluut geen jeugdboek vanwege de politieke verwikkelingen en het oorlogsgeweld. I wish I could remember Catching Fire better because there were references to people and happenings that I couldn't remember. Nevertheless Mockingjay is a totally gripping book that made for late nights of reading. I enjoyed coming to know Katniss as a person, tormented as she is in this volume. There's a lot of action that sometimes loses me; it's so overwhelming. Much of it is like an Hieronymous Bosch painting. All in all, it's a fitting conclusion to a great series. ...more
