I have now read this book 5 times and I still love it and recommend it to anyone who likes a good historical/time-travel/love story/big old chunkster! Seriously, this is the fastest 850 pages I've ever read. I never get tired of this series.
Jamie and Claire are still hot. I still love Gabaldon's writing style.
I still **`REALLY, REALLY** like the love scenes...one in particular, fellow fans know the one I'm talking about, nudge nudge, wink, wink!

AHHHHHHHH! I'm finally reading it...and I can't talk now b/c I don't want to stop...

Whew...that was a good read. Even at 850 pages it was a good read. It had a few slow moments, but by in large, good good good.

So good that I'm willing to commit to another 850 pages and read book 2.

Not sure that I would have read this book, but I listened to the audio. The book seemed to go in waves to me. Sometimes so slow that I thought I would have to abandon it, but just in time it would pick up and suck me in again. I have to say that the reader, Davina Porter, had a lot to do with my thorough enjoyment of the finished product.

Book One of the he highly rated Outlander series. I've had this book (and the next five after it) sitting on my bookshelf in my bedroom for six years. Every time I picked it up the sheer volume caused me to hesitate. Did I really want to invest that much time reading one book when I could read several others in the same amount of time? Finally, thanks to a dear friend's recommendation, I picked it up and read it. I'll be honest, thank goodness my friend warned me to give it until about chapter t Book One of the he highly rated Outlander series. I've had this book (and the next five after it) sitting on my bookshelf in my bedroom for six years. Every time I picked it up the sheer volume caused me to hesitate. Did I really want to invest that much time reading one book when I could read several others in the same amount of time? Finally, thanks to a dear friend's recommendation, I picked it up and read it. I'll be honest, thank goodness my friend warned me to give it until about chapter three because I really thought I was going to doze off in the first few chapters. Frank came across as quite the bore. It was only when he came home in the storm and inquired about the Scot he's seen looking up at the window where Claire could be seen brushing her hair, that I found myself anxious to turn the next page. A Scot that vanishes into a storm while looking up at Claire and that's it? Nope. Reality does a lovely little number on Claire a few pages after that and before you have much time to breathe, you're thrown back in time two hundred years with Claire into the middle of a Scottish skirmish with the Redcoat Dragoons. I can admit that I'm a sucker for Highlanders and this book did not disappoint. I immediately liked Jamie, while the same could not be said for his shifty Uncle Dougal. I loved the journey from Claire and Jamie's marriage of convenience into one of passionate love. I loved the reveal of the truth and the choice she made to stay in the time with Jamie and live her life with him. I absolutely hated that villainous Jack Randall - distant relative of Claire's modern day boring husband, Frank. Not much in common other than their blood. I definitely felt I could have done without some of the details of the torture that Jamie incurs at the hands of Randall, and I seriously hated the literal drop off ending. I read the last line, not knowing it was the end and looked to the next page to find "acknowledgements" = WTF? I've always been one that simultaneously loves and hates cliffhanger endings and so it goes with this book.

At least I don't regret the fact I bought all of these books years ago, as I know don't have to wait for the next edition of the love story between Claire and Jamie.

I started reading this book and got about 200 pages in and I just can't keep my attention on it and plopped it in the trade in pile. Usually I read and just can't put it down but this one seems to well drrrrraaggg out. After reading some of the reviews on it I really want to pick it back up and try to put more into it and give a better review who knows. Ill take it out of the pile for now and try again later... ...more
