A book that takes a few pages to fly -- but ends up as one of the most powerful books I've read in a long time. My only quibble: I'd like to know what happens next to the set of sisters... I want a follow up to this book that transverses the Civil War and suffragette movement!

I don't like book that talks about slavery stories , but this book is different .From the first page you start to think this will be very good book.
" Every time mauma woke and found me in bed with her, she had a fit, saying all the trouble there would be if I got caught, how I already lived too far out on missus' bad side". A very powerful book and a wonderful read. It was a sad time of slavery and suppressed women's rights lead by misguided Christians. Were their beliefs much different than those of today's Islamic extremists? It's amazing how people use religion to explain their twisted minds.
