I have to admit that I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book, but once I did it was entrancing. Circe worked her magic on me.
Having been rejected by her kin, daughter of Helios, god of the sun, and the nymph Perse, she had taken to mortals for friendships, and she soon learned that she had powers of magic. She is punished by her father for using magic, a power forbidden to gods because it involves toil, and is thus exiled to a life on the island Aiaia.
