I wonder why I have never read Russian classics before! And what treats I have in store!! The portrait of Anna was very well drawn and after finishing it, my thoughts about Anna was that she was very very bored and very very passionate and drawn to action. I know, I know, this is supposed to be a classic. The story started off interesting but they lost me along the way and finishing it became a matter of sheer willpower. Very wordy (why say something in 5 words if you can use 50) and all the digressions took their toll on me. It also depressed me where the characters were in the ending - very Russian, I suppose but not for me. I don't necessarily need a happy ending but appreciate one that makes me think.
