First, I have to say that The Thirteenth Tale is a book for book lovers. Second, this is the best piece of contemporary fiction I've read yet.

I found this immensely entertaining; a book that gripped me from the first page to last, with no dull passages I was tempted to skim, and one I hated to put down until finished. It didn't make me cry or laugh out loud or make me think, so I guess it doesn't quite deserve top marks, but Setterfield sure knows how to spin a yarn. She knows both how to turn a phrase and how to put more than one twist in her tale. This is a tale in the gothic tradition of Jane Eyre or Turn of the Screw.

Completely seductive and satisfying. I had a great time with this and I'm sorry it's over.
I knew nothing about this before I read it. It came nicely on the heels of We Have Always Lived in the Castle, which is in a higher literary league than The Thirteenth Tale, but still. It also reminded me of The House at Riverton, but I didn't like that as much as this.
All the mysteries were answered, I didn't suspect anything, and even after everything was solved, you get to kind of simmer in it all sin ...more

I listened to this book for the second time to see what I have missed the first time around. Unfortunately, I still have to give it 1 Star it deserves!
I don't like it when writers twist everything around to make the reader all confused and they call it a good mystery book. I am glad I gave this book a second chance and obviously it was not my cup of tea. ...more
