Known for her books about Chinese history, Anchee Min attempts to tell the story of reknowned writer, Pearl S. Buck in this wonderful work, Pearl of China. Buck was the daughter of American missionaries, and she spent her childhood in a poor village called Chin-kiang, before being sent away to school in Shanghai. I was so excited when I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. Overall, this book, through a fictional account, helped me to learn a bit about Pearl S. Buck's life which I knew nothing about. It has also been the inspiration behind my re-reading The Good Earth, as well as looking into some of the other books Pearl wrote during her lifetime.
