I came to this book only having read 'The Road' of McArthys novels, which was an astonishing book and moved me and similarly terrified me. Perhaps what is equally brilliant about this book is the ability McArthy has to combine wonderfully descriptive prose with a sense of adventure romance and risk, so a highly literary novel that also reads like a boys own adventure and I felt as similarly moved and anxious at times. People seems to often say this is his best work but it doesn't live up to The Road for me. Enjoyed it, but not as much as I was hoping to.
