A searing and indelible historical fiction that captures the depth of loyalty and intimate ties of family and friends, The Invisible Bridge is the story of a Jewish Hungarian family of three brothers and closely follows the path of Andras – the middle brother as he moves to Paris as a student in 1937. I wish I could go back to the beginning of the book and remember what I liked about it. It is very well written, but towards the end I just wanted it to end. Epic read in this (to me) just means a lot of words and a lot of pages.

I am so glad I read this book - a history (Hungary during WWII) I knew little about. The writing is thoroughly competent, if not genius (clean, clear sentences & no mixing up of forbidding with foreboding, or later with latter), and the details of the lost world it describes kept me committed for 750 pages, a good score.
