I am finally done with 11 long hours of listening and I am still reeling from the aftertaste the book has left in my mouth. Heart wrenching yet appealing. Oh!

Right from the beginning, the book held me steadfast. The story of a 80 year old reminiscing about her life, and such an interesting one at that. I inhaled the smell of China, its history, foot-binding procedure and many other obligations one has to go through as a woman in China.

The feminist in me was seething with anger at many of the words and customs in this book, but you can't help something that was practised and felt by millions of women for centuries. So I move on from that anger...

This book will give you an idea of what it must've been like to be a girl I'm China in the 1800's and that picture is very vivid. These 4 stars are for the picture alone, felt very real and I felt my gut being twisted with pain for those girls many times over.

worth reading.It is more on friend becomes sisters that end with sad ending..sob sob..the way the author describes every scene is undefined by the moving pictures@movie..
