If someone described the publication of this book as a money making racket I would find it hard to criticise.

Even if the senile author had been manipulated into acceding to its publication, the kind of money that was growing on the trees would make it a mere peccadillo. But I suspect had Mr Finch been fortunate to live as long as his creator-author, he'd have taken umbrage at the moral failure on the part of the agents and publishers no?

The much-anticipated novel by Harper Lee, an early draft of To Kill a Mocking Bird or a sequel to said book, whichever theory you ascribe to, was fairly middling. Jean Louise Finch or “Scout” returns from New York City to her hometown in Alabama for a short visit. We get to know her in the present but more from the past – through the incidents, relationships and social setting she experienced growing up. While I didn't like the story as much as Mockingbird, I did enjoy seeing how Lee intertwined the two. I also enjoyed the parts where the main character remembers back to her childhood, which I think made me feel as though I was closer to the preferred story. I felt the book bogged down a bit in the second half but it recovered nicely, in the end. ...more

Interesting way author dealt with perceptions of prejudice and rationale for actions that seem influenced by bias. Scout is still my kind of woman!
