4.5 stars

If I had to rate this book on the story alone then I would have easily given it 5 stars, maybe even 6. The book has a warmth about it and the writing is very simplistic (meant as a compliment)

Ove is a grumpy, unsocial and awkward man. He hates everybody and everything around him, except one person - his wife Sonja. She is the only colour in his life, the only person he loves and most importantly the only person who understands him. His love for her is boundless. He keeps loving her even

What a sweet little book.
Ove is a grumpy old sod with the biggest heart. Make the effort to get to know him and look past the moaning and you will be rewarded. It reminded me of some people around me and actually made me appreciate their moaning. Not for very long though.
In the end it becomes a bit cheesy, but by then I was so in love with the characters that even I didn't mind.

I liked this book...almost 4 stars. The story is really sweet and I'm ready for a movie. But I couldn't give it more than 3.5 stars because it never hooked me. Maybe the sad undertone? It was hard to pick it up everytime I set it down. I was never looking forward to reading it. ...more

I loved this story so much. I cried and laughed the whole way through it. Absolutely incredible, and has ALL the feels. Devoured it in a single sitting, and will definitely have a book hangover, because how can anything follow this?

EDIT: same on the re-read.

EDIT: cried a lot on this re-read, too.

I listened to the audio version and especially was glued to the final pages-hours during consecutive days of a non-enjoyable commute. Non-stereotypical characters and an interesting way of revealing the back story. There is a Swedish film as well ...
