With all the five star reviews, I expected a lot more from this novel. Basically it's a story of a grumpy old man with a sad past. He is called the bitter neighbor from hell, but eventually he finds love and purpose in his life. Ove is not sympathetic - at least not in my opinion. The novel was filled with little tales from his life; about 10% humorous and very predictable. This book just wasn't for me.

This book came highly recommended from various reading groups on FB that I am a part of, and so I had some expectation on it.
I'll stick to my initial assessment. I do not appreciate the tone of narration in this book. Long winded method of story telling just to induce a few chuckles is not same as as-a-matter-of-fact story telling which makes you chuckle as you read it. I love this book. I wouldn't change a word of it! It was smart, clever, warm and very funny. The cat gave Ova a run for his money as the top character. Bravo to the author.

A lovely and charming story, but not the least bit hokey. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
This book was okay to me. I noticed that many people gave it very high ratings but it just didn't resonate with me. I do agree with one reader's comments about the cat - the character should have been a dog b/c cats do not act the way it was described - they don't like to ride in cars and they would never walk into stores.
