“There was a whole world beyond that shoreline, beyond the forest, beyond the knuckle mountains, beyond, beyond, beyond, not beneath the surface at all, but beyond and waiting.”
I don't think I am in any shape or form capable of writing a review for this. I lack the skills to properly express what I feel. I honestly lack the skills to even UNDERSTAND what I feel. This has made a huge impact on me.
It's a quiet book. And a loud book. It is powerful, important, emotional. It hurts. It gr ...more

4 stars. This was a much needed re-read. It’s been sitting on my shelf since 2012 and I just had the sudden urge to read it again and I am so glad that I did. I definitely can say that I enjoyed and appreciated this so much more the second time around and it hit me a lot harder.
This book is heavy and almost melancholy in a way. It’s brutally honest and there is no sugarcoating of a happi ...more

Cannot fault it.
Flawless and poetic writing with just enough crunch to keep it interesting. Drew me in from page one, and kept me interested right up until the end. Great characters, very realistic prose.
Only complaint is for the kindle version - was very cheap, but all the extra pictures - like the iceburg work sheet and the brochures, letters, etc, were too small to read properly. Like someone had just scanned a page from the paper copy of the book without checking to see if it was the right ...more

I read this book at least two weeks ago but I’m only just reviewing it today. Bad idea! I have forgotten most of it and I read two other books since! Sigh. Moral of the story, review a book as soon as you finish reading it.
So, this book had everything. It’s a lengthy novel for a contemporary, coming up to almost 500 pages. It dealt with grief, first crush, accepting your sexuality, first love and homophobia. I loved the writing! It was atmospheric, really capturing the feel of a long summer day. ...more

This book is up there alongside 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' on the list of awesome coming-of-age books. I didn't know what to expect with this book, I only picked it up because I liked the cover. And I found that I loved it. Cameron Post is such a brilliant main character; I liked her from the start but absolutely fell in love with her during the third par of this book. Her sass and snark are beautiful. I liked her relationships; especially the one she had with Irene (fuck you, Cole ...more
