I am sure there is more to glean from this book than I gleaned. Still, I found it a worthwhile read and had high hopes for Julien and yet, the bizarre ending did not surprise or disappoint me. Julien tried to achieve greatness without hypocrisy and the book leads the reader to believe that is not possible. He was both likable and frustrating. He was honest in fault (which ultimately led to his conviction of his own death) and love (which led to his, what I would call irrational, crime however he ...more
