A bit rambling, but four stars for the ending. Nice Nesbo. This installation was a beneficial pivot in this series.

While there are sufficient brutal murders in Jo Nesbo's latest, it is not as enthralling as his previous Harry Hole novels. And...I am totally unclear about the ending. If you've read it, please inbox me with what happens at the end.

The only reason it's not a five stars book is the giant leap of faith that the reader has to take when Harry is assaulted and almost cut to death with knife wounds to the neck.

Harry Hole returns to Oslo from Hong Kong to help out his former girlfriend Rakel's son Oleg. Oleg is accused of murdering Gusto, a thief and a drug dealer. Harry explores the world of drugs in Olso, especially a new drug, violin. A gritty mystery told from multiple viewpoints, including the dying Gusto. Well written but really depressing at times.
