Before you are allowed to post a review of this novel, I’m going to have to ask you to present an official id. An official id with your dob on it. I’m sorry, but I just don’t think a person under fifty can really appreciate this book and I’m not sure those of you under fifty would have the patience to read a book where the biggest plot points are repairing a scratch on her new car.

This book is like sitting in front of a lit fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa on a cold winter's day. It is that delightful. There is no great story or plot, no adventure or suspence. It is merely the story of living alone after one's children have grown and left and one's spouse has been dead several years. Emily discovers that she has a hidden strength and realizes that life still holds promise, delighting in the simple pleasures; caring for a dog and garden, worrying about one's elderly neigh ...more
