• While not the author’s best book – the writing, the storyline and the characters draw you into the book and easily finished the book in two nights.
• Very good evocation of the time and place – 1850s Ohio just before and when the Fugitive Slave Act was passed and rapidly implemented.
• Good job on the question of what do law abiding citizens do when faced with a moral dilemma that questions their beliefs yet the reality and what is practical has to be taken into consideration.

Not in a class with Girl with the Pearl Earring, this one has a YA feel to it in that there is no ambiguity in what the author is trying to impart.

Tracy Chevalier has been one of my favourite authors for years. I initially read Girl With a Pearl Earring when it was first published in 1999 and with one or two exceptions I have read my way through her entire canon.

I really liked the character of Honor Bright. I enjoyed that quilts played an important part in her life and how her ideas for quilts changed as she changed. I also liked the character of Belle Mills. And I enjoyed learned a bit about the Quakers. I just wish the had been a bit more about the underground railroad. All in all it was a pleasant read.
