Despite the unrelenting use of similes, giving this 3 stars. But reading through the Robicheaux series is exhausting and a bit depressing. Always one or more people are trying to kill him and/or his family and friends, I believe, in every book. The people in the world around him are all colorful and eccentric - and dysfunctional as a result of nasty life experiences and choices. He inhabits a dangerous, dark universe.
