The fact that the history of this country is at its heart a story of stolen land is way too easy for many of us to ignore. Read this. Read this at the same time as the other book I'm reading, if you really want to be angry. ...more

This first Toni Morrison book that I have loved and understood. Well understood may be not be entirely correct since Morrison writing is somewhat difficult for me at times. Nonetheless, I would recommend this book to an average reader, it was entertaining, historically accurate and thought provoking. I couldn't put it down. I may need to go back and reread some of her other books I read in my youth. Or maybe not, I don't think I could read the Bluest Eye again.
Looking forward to discussing this

It provided an interesting perspective. I also loved all voices of the different characters of the novel. ...more

Every book Toni Morrison writes is a 5. It's been many years since I've read her, and it was an incredible antidote to the pain of this week to immerse myself in the brilliance of one of our most brilliant. A Mercy is striking, lyrical, and painful. It forced me to slow down to understand and savor. ...more
