There's a lot to like and a lot to think about in this book which is about the role of art in life and life in art and the difficulties of distinguishing one from another. Unfortunately, the book ultimately fell flat for me because the characters never became three dimensional beings. I really could not relate to this book. The characters in it either evoked a sad sort of pity or outright distain. Either I'm not smart enough to catch the deeper points of the narrative or it is filled with ideas not worth thinking about.

I'll admit to being on the fence about whether or not to read this for some time, but glad I finally did. Wilson interjects the right amount of humor into what's really a very sober story about the outsized influence parents can have on their children, particularly when they set tight boundaries around the sort of person their kids should be.
