There's a lot to like and a lot to think about in this book which is about the role of art in life and life in art and the difficulties of distinguishing one from another. Unfortunately, the book ultimately fell flat for me because the characters never became three dimensional beings. I never felt that any of the characters were organic or in any kind of real relationship with the other characters. They seemed like stick figures carrying out their assigned roles. I'll admit to being on the fence about whether or not to read this for some time, but glad I finally did. Wilson interjects the right amount of humor into what's really a very sober story about the outsized influence parents can have on their children, particularly when they set tight boundaries around the sort of person their kids should be.
