I loved this book. And I have never even surfed. I was considering writing this review as a surfing metaphor, but it got a bit strained along the way and is now safely deleted. Suffice to say that reading this book is like riding a wave which builds as you go through it, until the tumultuous end. Yes, it's a coming-of-age story, and no it isn't YA-the themes are too adult for that. It is an exploration of extremes, using surfing and rivalry as its tools.
